A short introduction on Loksim driving:

1. Set direction selector to forward (Ctrl-R).
2. Raise pantograph (Ctrl-B) and wait a moment.
3. Switch on main power switch (key H).
3. Release brakes (key 7).
4. Switch headlights on (key Ctrl-L).
5. Press shift-A for AFB (automatic drive and brake control). As a beginner it is easier to drive with 'AFB'. Note that not all locomotives are equipped with AFB.
6. Wait for the departure whistle or press F11 to jump to departure time.
7. Control the traction power with the up/down keys, the speed with left/right keys and control the brakes (7,8,9: decrease, 4,5,6 hold, 1,2,3 increase)
8. While driving operate the Sifa vigilance device (space bar) every 20 seconds.
9. Press "I" (Indusi) after passing a yellow signal or after passing a triangled speed-limit-sign with an index below 10 (See "Indusi operation" for more detailed information).
10. Stop at the "H"-stop marker at the platform
11. To release a penalty braking: Press "U" (Indusi) or "Space" (Sifa)

We hope you will have a nice and safe ride.

Indusi operation

Loksim simulates various safty systems. Most often the PZB90 2.0 Indusi (Induktive Zugbeeinflussung) safety system is used.

Indusi Transponders
The Indusi is based on three different kinds of transponders that are located right hand of the track. They look like small yellow boxes and they are visible while driving Loksim. Another transponder (not visible in Loksim) is attached to the bottom of the locomotive and interacts with the transponders located along the tracks.

1000hz- Transponder: It is located at distant signals that announce stop (yellow/yellow) or slow approach (yellow/green) and speed announcement boards that announce a speed below 100 kph. You have to confirm the Indusi button "I" at least 4 seconds after passing it. If not, a penalty brake will apply. After confirming, the yellow "1000hz" light lights up and you will have to reduce speed depending on Indusi mode:

U: 55 kph after 34 sec. or 700 meters
M: 70 kph after 26 sec. or 700 meters
O: 85 kph after 20 sec. or 700 meters.

500hz- Transponder: A further speed check that is only activated when approaching a red signal. It is located 250 meters in front of the main signal and a red "500hz" light will appear in the cab display when you pass an activated one.
The speed limits depend on Indusi mode:

U: 40 kph when passing; 45 kph after 150 meters
M: 50 kph when passing; 35 kph after 150 meters
O: 65 kph when passing: 25 kph after 150 meters

2000hz- Transponder: Located directly at the main signal it is meant to stop trains that try to pass a red signal. If you pass it, a penalty brake will apply immediately and the simulation will be cancelled.

Indusi modes:
There are three different operation modes that depend on the kind of train and its brake performance. In the cab display you can see the selected Indusi mode.

Mode "U" heavy freight trains: blue "55" light
Mode "M" freight and slow passenger trains: blue "70" light
Mode "O" fast passenger trains: blue "85" light
